Smooth Away, does it REALLY work?

There are many things "as seen on TV" that can be impulsively purchased at women's shows or drugstores, so it should come as no surprise that Smooth Away was present at the Seattle Northwest Women's Show.

After a couple of women at our Party Gals booth decided to have a small body part "smooth-ed" I went to give it a whirl. I had been deliberately waiting to shave my legs and the growth was impressive. When she briskly circled my inner calve with the large pad, the hair disappeared! I was sold, two for $25! (what a rip off, you can get two for $14.95 online...)

So later that night, I did just as the directions instructed.... I used the large pad for my legs and moved in two different circular motions to exfoliate and remove unwanted hair. I didn't put too much pressure, and I made sure my legs were clean, dry and without lotions or oils.

It didn't hurt, but there was a certain raw sensation that I figured would go away after a a few hours while my freshly exfoliated skin renewed itself.

The next morning, my legs were still feeling raw. And like any glutton for punishment I tried the Smooth Away on my underarms. Yikes!! My much more sensitive skin was irritated to say the least! I had raw, red spots under my arms for two days.

My legs still have not fully returned to their normally soft, (I did the skin removal about 6 days ago) although hairy state. I cannot recommend this product to anyone, unless your hair is ultra fine.... then perhaps the few times the pads would have to graze your skin to remove the hair, would cause little damage.

I knew that it must be too good to be true, afterall, it is an ultrafine sandpaper pad... duh! But, any possibility to not have to buy razors again was worth the pain. My pain, your choice... choose wisely.

It looks retro and cute, but don't let it fool you! The stories inside are modern, sometimes harsh, but always refreshingly honest, charming, and entertaining.
This book is a great one to store beside the bed, bath tub, or in the loo. Perfect short stories to read when you have a "minute" to yourself.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Starshine at my own book signing in Santa Barbara, which I was delighted to see was Chapter One, Pole Positions.

Her strangely precise descriptions of events and things are what I enjoy most while feeling as though I am reading her diary. Her stories are inspired by current events, but always come back to her attitude towards them, or should I say, her discoveries about herself because of them.

For example, the chapters entitled Sex Drive? and Here's The Buzz, both typical situations a mom might find herself in, but the time Starshine spent contemplating and documenting it makes our own experiences seem more profound. Like we had those epiphanies too, but just hadn't realized how special they were.

Thanks Starshine, for reminding me of the daily blessings and extraordinary common things that come my way.

Wow, I've heard of primadonna's on set and demanding actors, but what the F*@!? :) When I listened to this audio clip on TMZ, I was disgusted and confused. I know Christian Bale is no saint, afterall, he was accused of beating his mom and wife last summer. Holiday movies are making us cry! Don't go out without a tissue box!

Seven pounds is getting a lot of Oscar buzz, and so is Will Smith for his leading role. Without totally ruining the movie going experience for you, as much of this movie is figuring out what the story is... Will Smith plays a troubled man who is devastated by the death of his fiance and others during a car crash in which he was driving, and was the sole survivor. His guilt creates a need for him to repent for his sins, and in the process he finds some personal challenges in finishing his mission. A great movie that leaves you feeling strangely inspired and totally devastated.

Marley and Me is another tear jerker, of the worst kind! The entire theatre was sobbing.... SOBBING! For anyone who has ever loved a dog, and especially those who have ever lost one, will be completely engrossed. Marley will steal your heart, and you'll take a walk down memory lane with the funny puppyhood stories, watching their family grow, and of course saying good-bye to man's best friend.
I personally couldn't stop from criticizing Jennifer Aniston, for her obvious beauty treatments. She's starting to look like an over injected suburban mom. C'mon ladies, grow old gracefully, at least we'll recognize you in pictures. I would love to give her a few pole dancing lessons. Then maybe she'll see herself for the beautiful woman she is.

Milk is the story of Harvey Milk, the first gay man to be elected into City Council who was assassinated shortly after. It is a much needed look into the gay community at a time when Gay Rights are being questioned here in the state of California. I loved the film, and wish it had made an earlier debut to have potentially influenced the minds of voters prior to the decision making day.

Yes, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have agreed to finally tie to knot according to several sources including Star Magazine, and are now hashing out a $200M prenup! With that many kids, and tons of money and property, of course they should be setting things up in the event that they should not stay together. With rumors flying around that they are pregnant with twins again, it's a smart thing to want to ensure that the kids are taken care of. Let's face it, divorces are ugly, why not have things settled before emotions flare and people get mean and resentful?

So what about Jennifer Aniston? Her big news this week is that she likes to flaunt her assets with some plastic nipples that can be tucked into her bra called "pokies." Hmmm, that was the best story her publicists could come up with the counter the $200M prenup? Yikes! Getting into your pants! Not a book about picking up chicks, but a guide to healthier eating...

Leslie Von Romer is the ultra thin Author of Getting into your pants! Her guide to living healthy is backed by her years of eating a nutritional diet which consists of 10 fruits and 10 vegetables a day! I was amazed when I listened to her speak at the Portland Northwest Women's Show, as I looked around the seminar area at the women who seemed to think her 10+10 program must be impossible. I too thought, "How could someone who is used to eating processed foods, fast food, and tons of other prepared edibles get used to consuming real food?"

Even though she had a testimonial from one of the young women who had heard her speak the day prior, and was already feeling more energetic from following Dr Leslie's advice... I was still skeptical.

When I returned home, I stocked up on fresh fruits and vegetables and vowed to give it a shot. The bill was stifling. I realize crap doesn't cost as much as the good stuff, but let's see what kind of meals and fulfillment I get from the foods I bought. Of course, I don't want just the average apples and oranges. I want exotic fruits too!

After a day or two, I do feel strangely content with the lack of breads, meats, and other fillers that I may have otherwise eaten. I guess woman can live on pure food alone. I do still think this way of life may be a bit more costly, but I feel that the nutritional increase is worth the funds, if you can afford it.

Here's her basic breakdown of the program:
1. You don't need to starve yourself, or stop eating the foods you love, just eat less of them.
2. Begin your day with the healthiest foods for your body- eat 10 fruits by lunchtime.
3. For lunch have a great big salad. Avoid the oils and fats.
4. Avocado makes a great dressing when mixed with Lemon Juice and tossed well with salad greens
5. For dinner eat your veggies first, this includes a baked potato (minus the butter and sour cream) then if you're still hungry munch on the meats and breads.

She empathizes with women, as we tend to cook for others as well. She says we don't have to change our families diet, but simply fill our plate with the healthy stuff.

She also reiterates, that you don't need to deprive yourself of the desserts, chips, cookies, etc. Just eat them less, after you have already stuffed yourself with GOOD food.

Pedegg, as seen on TV, really works on dry cracked feet!

I finally had to try the Amazing Pedegg for myself to see if the As seen on TV claims were really what they were cracked up to be. Of course, my local drug store had them in stock, and the pink for the cure packaging made me feel even better about my $9.95 purchase. I took the package home, elated to find the new plastic containers now come with perforated openings, so I won't have to slice my hand open to just the darn thing out!

I soaked my feet in a hot bath, and sat the the edge of the tub hoping for a miracle. As I began to rigorously rub the ergonomically shaped egg over my heels and problem areas, I found that my skin was beginning to look soft and the dead skin was in fact coming off rather easily! The small blades on the egg are not sharp to touch so if my kids should decide to pick it up, they won't be in danger.

Alas, an As Seen on TV beauty product that is worth the money! I don't have to book that expensive pedicure to really remove dead skin from my feet, and I don't have to get mad when the cheap pedicure I get doesn't do the job. I can do the dirty work myself with the help of my new Pedegg!

Election results are in! Obama is President!

As everyone knows by now, Barack Obama is the new President of the United States. It was a surreal victory last night as the announcements were made over television, radio, and internet to a world of anxious people. Whether you lived in the United States and were or were not able to vote in this country, you were glued to the news.

As I boarded my return flight home from Vegas, people were talking on cell phones trying to hear the latest election coverage and by the time we touched down in Burbank, the results were in. Cell phones were powered up the second the wheels hit the runway, and travelers were sharing the information with one another. For the first time in a long while, I saw people communicating with one another during air travel.

As I walked into the terminal, small mobs of people were quietly gathered around terminal monitors listening intently to the first speech Obama would make as the President Elect. Some with tear stung eyes, perhaps in relief that our country could move itself into a new era. Maybe many of them, like myself, felt awestruck that we had finally created change in a system that seemed to be failing us for so many years. The feeling of helplessness and despair oozing out of my body, being replaced with the small familiar fuzziness I remember to be hope.

Hope that the democracy this country was built on actually could serve it's people. Hope that even though many of us are drowning in a downward spiral, that there might be light at the end of the tunnel. Hope that people will live less in fear, and more in a community of fellow Americans who can speak to strangers on a plane, hold doors open for one another, and move through their lives with the belief that we can make it better.

Whether your vote was for Obama or McCain, it is difficult not to feel a sense of personal empowerment by his being elected into office. We no longer are depending on a Country to dictate what the next few years will be, we now have the ability to decide, whether we like it or not.

Is Sarah Palin a good choice for VP?

So John McCain has appointed a VP for the election. For the past few weeks, political analysts and random critics have been giving their two cents about whether or not he made the right decision. This photo is floating around the web, so of course we had to comment on it too!

I think it adds a new focus to the campaign, and whether people believe she has the credentials, or experience to be Vice-President of the United States or not, she does have an appealing quality about her.... or two. She is easy on the eyes, the mother of a child with disabilities, the mother of a solider in the war, and the mother of a pregnant teenage daughter. And did we mention, she's a WOMAN?

A woman who does not agree that young women should have the right to terminate a pregnancy, and a woman who does not think Sex Education should be taught in schools.

I think McCain's team knew all about the pregnancy, even though analysts feel like it was a shock to the campaign. What better publicity than that? I may not be a McCain supporter, but I do like what I see so far. It's going to be an interesting rest of the election. I encourage you all to stay informed on both parties and try to make the best decision for our country... it's gonna be a tough one.

I've been reading all about this video game system and never really thought twice about it. But not I am seeing articles in magazines and online about people losing weight and staying fit in their homes with their video fitness games!

A new revolution of physical fitness has made it possible for the techie generation who would rather be playing Mario Kart than taking a hike. Now there are points earned for boxing, dancing, and even yoga on this incredibly interactive game system.

So grab one for your family, if you can get one... and make fitness and exercise a regular part of your day! Challenge each other to dance-offs, Knock out your partner in the ring, or relax and unwind with some yoga.

According to Us Magazine who quoted Roseanne's Blog, she went off on America's Sweetheart Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in a post entitled Jon Voight. Here's how it read:

"Your evil spawn Angelina Jolie and her vacuous hubby Brad Pitt make about $40 million a year in violent, psychopathic movies and give away three of it to starving children, trying to look as if they give a crap about humanity as they spit out more dunces that will consume more than their fair share and wreck the earth even more,"

"Miss Jolie says she likes [John] McCain too and hasn't decided who to endorse....huh?" Roseanne writes. "Aren't you supposed to be somewhat enlightened, or do you not know that the African daughter you hold in every picture had parents who suffered and died because of the Republican party's worldwide economic assault on Africa over the last few decades since Reagan?"

Roseanne also says "it might be good for your Asian and African children's self-esteem to know you support" (Barack Obama) "for the leader of the free world."

WOW! Is this a joke? Is it a part of her Vegas comedy show? Pretty intense.

Creme de la Mer-Does it really work?

According to this calm, yet disappointed woman on YouTube, it doesn't work. But my personal experience has been much different. After seeing a definite change on my cousin's face, I HAD to get some. As the years go by I can see the wrinkles getting a little deeper, and the lines more apparent. I figured it was time to work on it.

Creme de la Mer is not cheap by any means, however, the small amount that is used during each application, does somehow make it less expensive. There is a magic way to apply to cream as well. The ladies at the Neiman counter was so adamant about how I applied it. And for $130 a jar, I PAID ATTENTION.

I am noticing less baggage under the eyes and an overall more youthful experience. Yep, I am hooked.

Wow, what a pleasure to interview such a cool woman! She is not only the Author of the Three Martini Playdate, but also a sly educator bringing the old school parenting styles back! Whatever happened to kids entertaining themselves and saying,"Please" and "Thank you?" Gone seem to the be the days of cocktail parties where grown-ups chat with clinking glasses while kids run about outdoors and play amongst themselves. Ah, the distant memory of falling asleep in my bedroom while I listened to the sound of music and muffled voices discussing wordly things beyond my comprehension.

Christie Mellor is bringing the "parent" back in parenting, in her entertaining, yet truthful book entitled, The Three Martini Playdate. Part parenting book, part cocktail bar recipe book, and all inspiring prose to remember who you are-the Queen of the castle.

Her voice is calm and endearing, but her message is deliberate and focused. I felt a slight "Rebel" message as I read,".."playdate... may the chipper mommy who coined that particular term forever rot in hell of eternally colicky babies," yet she so eloquently corrects me that being in charge of your life outside of mommyhood should not be rebellious. Agreed.

Guess it's time to ditch a few playdates and protest some overly obnoxious birthday parties, chill some vodka and invite over some moms that want to talk about something other than their children!

Highly recommend this book to any mom, even if you can't see the crayon writing on the wall.

I love the tips included in this book!! Not that I really believe everything they suggest will work, but because it's a fun and entertaining read. Like getting your celebrity gossip with your diet tips!

What an honor to be included in the second edition of this series! Not only did Kym Douglas, a regular on The Ellen Show, as well as appearances on The View, The Tyra Banks show, and E! want to interview me as an expert for her first book, The Black book of Hollywood Beauty Secrets, but she also published me as an expert in the Sexy Bodies Chapter of The Black book of Hollywood Diet Secrets along with Sheila Kelly. Needless to say I am flattered to be alongside such a well known advocate for striptease.

I think the book has a lot of information about dieting perceptions, and personal body images. It's nice to hear some of the celebrities tips intermingled with other BB experts throughout the book. I also like the recipes in the back! They really jam-packed this little book with everything relating to diets. There's even a prayer diet!

Federal Courts Overturn Sex Toy Ban in Texas! (original post 2/19/2008)

We couldn't be happier when reading the article posted by Associated Press about the recent decision regarding the ban on the sale and ownership of Sex toys in Texas! It's about time the Federal Government caught up with the times, and realized that people have evolved. We have not had sex in just the missionary position, without the use of "other" objects for stimulation in hundreds of years. Thankfully Texans can proudly boast their possession of Sex toys, as well as guns!

According to the article, the Courts cited a Supreme Court decision to squash a ban on consentual sex between same sex partners. Based on the outcome of that case (Lawrence and Garner vs Texas) the ban on sex toys would be completely unfounded.

YEEEHAWW! Get your vibrators out ladies and cowboys! It's time to show your sex toy pride!!

Now we can only hope that Alabama and Mississippi will also follow suit!
